Core Sample Analysis

Avizo Fire® is an advanced 3D visualization and analysis software application for exploring core sample data sets. From straightforward visualization and measurement to advanced image processing, quantification and skeletonization, Avizo Fire delivers an extensive set of tools addressing 2D and 3D visualisation, rock characterization, reconstruction of 3D rock models and pore networks analysis.

Major oil and gas companies, services companies, and researchers use Avizo Fire to analyze core samples.

Handle any Acquisition Modality

  • Avizo Fire imports any 2D or 3D images obtained from sources such as CT-scan, micro-CT, nano-CT, synchrotron, MRI, electron microscopy, thin slices, SEM/FIB and more, of any size and resolution.

Visualize Virtual Cores

  • Through fast interactive visualization, you can easily inspect data features. You can use ortho or oblique slices, cylinder slice with unfolded view, curved slices, dip/strike slices, projections like MIPs, or direct volume rendering. You can easily crop and clip data to your region of interest, and even extract virtual plugs.

Measure and Quantify

  • Avizo Fire offers complete tools for image-based geometric and intensity measurements, for instance for retrieving CT number on slice, region or whole sample, probing intensity profiles, reporting porosity and tortuosity, measuring sizes and angles, etc.

Report and Present

  • You can match individual measures with corresponding features in 2D or 3D views. You can combine annotations, plots, histograms, 2D and 3D views. Avizo provides unique tools for creating animations, movies, presentations and interactive demos.

Fracture Networks

  • Use Avizo Fire to analyze fracture networks. Liner tube and the exterior of the core sample can be masked. An advanced segmentation module with multiple thresholds can be used to extract fractures. Once all features have been identified, you can quantify precisely information such as area, volume, aperture, gray mean, and variance.

Grain and Phase Characterization

  • Grains, phases or pore spaces can be segmented, separated automatically, and processed for measurement and classification, or exported as 3D surfaces or grids for further processing or simulation purpose.

Reconstruction of 3D Rock Models

  • Avizo can extract geometrical models from rock sample images: 3D surface meshes, 3D grids suitable for numerical simulation, and spatial graphs representing the skeleton of interconnected pores.

Pore Space Study for Permeability and Flow Analysis

  • Avizo Fire contains a set of powerful tools for extraction and analysis of pore network spatial graphs, with several skeletonization algorithms. Avizo provides robust support for different approaches to fluid flow analysis: image-based porosity and tortuosity, extraction of pore space skeleton, extraction of pore boundaries, and generation of 3D meshes for numerical simulation.

Post-processing and Simulation

  • Avizo Wind can take the results of the analyses and pre/post-process data for numerical simulation solvers if required.
