VSG announces the release of Avizo® Fire 7, 3D visualization and analysis software for Digital Rock Physics and Core Analysis
18 Jan 2012
Visualization Sciences Group (VSG) announces the release of version 7 of Avizo Fire, the 3D visualization and analysis software for Digital Rock Physics and Core Analysis. This major release brings enhanced tools and improved workflows for analyzing, modeling and characterizing rock samples, from pore-scale to core-scale. It also introduces XLab Hydro, an innovative software tool for absolute permeability calculation.
Version 7 of Avizo Fire introduces several automated workflows to help users perform complex analysis processes in a few clicks. Automatic threshold calculation and display of value histogram in sliders help quickly view the relevant information. Image-based data import wizards, which are based on reusable templates, make it easier to create scripts for automated workflows. Tools have been reorganized, renamed and simplified and many tooltips help find the right tool among hundreds of possibilities. The learning curve is thus improved and productivity is significantly increased. Image processing capabilities have been expanded with a set of state-of-the-art features. Furthermore, significant performance enhancements have been achieved, especially for the segmentation of complex data sets, and some of the most time-consuming image processing tasks such as filtering have been implemented using GPU computing.
Avizo Fire 7 also introduces a new module named XLab Hydro, which delivers an innovative solution to compute absolute permeability from image-based data. XLab Hydro can both perform a full simulation of a permeability experiment, and calculate the intrinsic permeability tensor of a rock sample. The numerical simulation allows accurate computation of absolute permeability even on very small samples at micro-/nanoscopic scale, without complex physical experiments. Furthermore XLab Hydro is a direct image-to-simulation tool, which avoids full 3D mesh reconstruction and the use of external solvers.
“This new version 7 represents a major step forward, both in functionality and usability, and reinforces even further the leading position of Avizo Fire as 3D software for core analysis and digital rock physics”, says Pascal Doux, VSG Product Director. “Furthermore, our new XLab Hydro module brings an unrivalled solution for permeability calculation and has already been adopted by leading research and commercial labs”.
